WHO SHOULD TAKE AN ATLAS COURSE? Students wanting to have a competitive advantage in the admissions process by improving their test scores while increasing their merit-based scholarship opportunities. Atlas offers unparalleled preparation through our customized and flexible prep options led by test-prep experts.
WHEN SHOULD I PREP? The timing of your test preparation depends on your schedule and extra-curricular activities. Consulting your College/Guidance Counselor or Academic Advisor is always the best option. Pre-College students typically prepare for 6-9 weeks leading up to their test date and should plan on taking the exam 2-3 times. Pre-Graduate students should look at a 9-12 week timeline for their preparation leading to their exam date and plan on taking at least 2 times before their program application is due.
WHY SHOULD I PREPARE? Preparation is necessary. The college admissions process has become increasingly competitive and the difference of a strong score could make or break your acceptance and scholarship opportunities of your child. Proper preparation will increase your confidence while building familiarity with the exam, content, and strategies, and result in a significant score improvement.
WHAT DOES MY PREP ENTAIL? ATLAS offers comprehensive and innovative prep options throughout the year with flexible scheduling and various locations to meet the needs of busy students.
WHAT MATERIALS DO I RECEIVE? Students receive their course materials on the first day of class. Students will receive official preparation materials, complete with real practice tests, as well as supplemental materials that outline strategies and content. Throughout the course additional reference materials will be provided as necessary to further customize your preparation and maximize your results.
HOW LARGE ARE YOUR COURSE OPTIONS? Classes average 12 students, not exceeding 15. Small Groups have 3-5 students. Private Tutoring is one-on-one.
WILL THERE BE HOMEWORK? There will be individualized homework and necessary work outside of class time. Students average 2-3 hours a week in addition to class time depending on their score demands. Completing all diagnostic exams is a large part of your success.
CAN I MAKE UP A CLASS IF I HAVE TO MISS ONE? We know that students keep a hectic schedule. ATLAS is flexible in letting students attend another session free of charge if they are unable to make their own class or test time. Students should notify their instructor of any changes the week prior and they will inform you of potential make-up classes.
HOW AM I ASSIGNED A TUTOR AND WHERE/WHEN WILL MY GROUP MEET? You are assigned a private tutor, or create your own small group tutor within 72 hours of completing your enrollment. You will then begin with a diagnostic exam, and the tutor will work with you after that to build a study plan and schedule your tutoring sessions. They will then We work with most area colleges, public libraries, and high schools and can utilize library or classroom space. We offer tutoring 7 days a week from 8am-9pm and will work around your schedule to the best of our ability. Do not wait until the last minute to enroll as most of our programs reach capacity within a month of their start date.
ARE RESULTS GUARANTEED? Nothing in life is truly guaranteed. However, we offer a number of guarantees to each student. First, we guarantee that our tutors know the tests inside and out, and will work to improve each student’s scores as much as possible. Second, we guarantee that if, for some (unlikely) reason, a student is not comfortable with his or her tutor, we will work with that student to ensure that he or she gets the most out of our tutoring. Third, we guarantee that, if a student attends all tutoring sessions and all diagnostics, and completes all of the homework, and still is not satisfied with his or her final score (even if that score improved), then that student can take any available group course we offer for the next test for only a $50 material fee, or receive a discount on further private tutoring. The point is this: we’ll work hard for you; if you work hard, you will improve; or we’ll work even harder to help.
WHAT IS THE ACT & PLAN? The ACT is used by Colleges and Universities to determine admissions, award scholarships, and award grants. The ACT is universally accepted along with the SAT for pre-college admissions. PLAN is a curriculum-based test that is similar to the ACT Assessment offered by some high schools starting your sophomore year. It is a good predictor of a future ACT score.
WHAT IS THE SAT & PSAT? The SAT is used by colleges and Universities to determine admissions, and award scholarships and to award grants. The SAT is widely accepted and predominant on the East and West Coasts. The PSAT is taken in either the sophomore or junior year of high school and is used as a gauge for a student’s expected performance on the SAT. It is also used to determine eligibility for the National Merit Scholarship. Eligibility for the National Merit program is determined by the Selection Index, which is the sum of a student’s scores on the math, critical reading and writing skills sections.
WHICH TEST SHOULD I TAKE? You can determine which exam structure/format you prefer by taking a sample from our site under each test page. Almost every college accepts both the ACT and SAT. Some elite programs may require SAT Subject Tests and have certain other academic requirements.
WHEN DO I RECEIVE MY SCORES? SAT & ACT scores are available online within 2-3 weeks of the exam. PSAT & PLAN scores are received mid-December by your school counselor. Official graduate exam scores are released online approximately as follows: GMAT-20 days, GRE-14 days, LSAT-21 days, MCAT-30 days, TOEFL-10 days.
WHAT IS A “GOOD” SCORE? There is not a good or a bad test score. Make sure that your score falls in line with your chosen colleges’/universities’ median scores and that it is an accurate reflection of you as a student.
